Arrived at the airport around 3pm. We got a bus from the airport to Dubrovnik. It cost 150 kuna for the 5 of us. The bus dropped people off at Pile gate and then went onto the bus station. We got off at the bus station and then piled into two taxis. We got to the marina at around 4pm. After everything on the boat was sorted, we headed into Dubrovnik for something to eat. The 1A and 1B bus runs by the marina into Dubrovnik every hour or so (timetable at the Marina bus stop). This costs 10 kuna a person (7 kuna to E. 1 approx).
Had breakfast at the marina. It was okay. DJ wasn’t impressed with his continental breakfast consisting of coffee, bread, honey and jam.
Left Okukije at about 9:55am. Passed Prozura at 10:25. Looked nice, might call in on the way back. Arrived in Korcula (42 58N 17 08E) at 5:45pm. Had fun mooring the boat, as it was very windy. On the way to Korcula, we sailed for 3 hours, from 11am to 2pm. Had a beautiful meal in a restaurant called Morski Konjic. A girl at a bar recommended this restaurant to us. We sat by the walls of the town and looking out at the sea.
Spent two hours in the morning looking around Korcula. Left the marina at 12:20pm. The marina cost 271 kuna for the night. Sailed and on engine until 2:10pm. Stopped at Kneza (42 57N 17 04E) for swimming and lunch. Left at 3:40pm. Arrived at Loviste (43 02N 17 02E) at 6pm. Took a while to decide where to moor. Decided to moor at pier for dinner (east side, I think). After dinner 8:50 left pier to go to the west side. Dropped anchor. Noted tonight that the sunset was at 8:20pm. Wolves howled in the distant hills.
Hauled up anchor and left Loviste at 9:20pm. Arrived at Lumbardo (42 65N 17 11E) at about 2pm. Ronnie and Saundra went into town. They were not too impressed. Martin and Tara stayed behind to splash DJ. Left Lumbardo at 3:30pm. Arrived Pomena (42 47N 17 20E) at 5:55pm. Pomena is at the edge o f the Mljet National Park.
Hired out bikes to cycle around the national park. The bikes cost 20 kuna per hour or 70 kuna for half day (6 hours). To visit the national park it cost 60 kuna each. Included in this price is a boat trip around the monastery of St Mary. When we returned to the boat, Ronnie was trying to keep the boat from drifting in stiff wind. There is very poor anchorage in Pomena. Most boats had 2 anchors down. Left Pomena at 11:45am. 5 dolphins joined us for about 5 minutes at 12:30pm. Sailed the whole way to Sipanska Luka (42 43N 17 51E). Arrived at 5pm. While we were having a beer on the sea front a religious procession passed us. They were in the order mentioned below.
While we moored in Sipanska Luka we went alongside, copying what another boat did. Later on a few more boats came in. The other boat changed the way it was moored, stern to peer. We were unwilling to change the position of our boat, due to the amount of drink taken (the beer is stronger here). In hindsight, it would have been better to have originally gone stern to peer as the Germans pointed out. The Germans were a bit narky with us but we reminded them of the war !!
Departed Sipanska Luka at 10:10am with gusts of up to 30 knots of wind. Arrived in Lopud (42 41N 17 57E) at 12:10. This is a busy little place with loads of ferrys coming and going , including the Permuda which we had seen in Sipanska Luka. We moored up against the peer. We were in the way of the ferries. Should have either gone into the marina (which was full) or put down our anchor. In Lopud, we saw our first sandy beach in Croatia. There were also plenty of restaurants. Left Lopud at 1:10pm. Arrived in U Sunj (42 40N 17 57E). We were told that this is Croatia’s most beautiful beach. Not a patch on irish beaches. It is very popular though. There were a good few boats moored near by. Also, the beach has plenty of deck chairs and people on it. Left U Sunj at 3:50pm. Arrived at the walls of Dubrovnik at about 5:05pm. Had a look around. We went into the harbour and then back out. Went under the Dundrum lookalike bridge (42 40N 18 04E) at 6:18pm. We arrived back at the marina at 6:50pm. After an inspection of the boat was carried out, we were told that we must fill up the diesel tank. It took 63 litres to fill at a pump outside of the marina. Good value.
Had to hand back the boat at 9am. At 9:06am a person from Euromarine came over to the boat to remind us. We also saw a diver swimming under the boats to inspect for any damage. An English crew had a bit of a nark with Euromarine over damage they said they hadn’t caused. After everything was removed from the boat and sorted out, the lads went to relax by the pool and the girls went into Dubrovnik. Left for the airport at 11:30am. Euromarine drove us in a van for 400 Kuna. When we got there we discovered that our flight had been brought forward to 1:20pm. The original time was 2:55pm.
7.5 kuna = 1 euro approx Before we handed back the boat, a diver went down and checked underneath. It might be a good idea to check underneath before taking the boat out. In Croatia, around the islands, fish is 2 to 3 times more expensive than beef. This seems strange when we saw lots of fish, but no cattle. DJ would like to remind people to put lots of sun cream on their feet and ankles. We operated from a kitty for everything and we spent a total of 8512.99 kuna (1143 euro). That is about 2.30 euro each. That included all meals, drinks, berths (where charged), bus fares, etc. It might be an idea to check going home flights by phone in advance as ours was brought forward by 1hr and 40 minutes (but still managed to leave late !). The buses between the Marina and the Pila Gate are 1A and 1B. It costs 10 kuna (€1.30).
Pivo - beer Hvala - thank you Dober dan - good day Dobro - good
